How aware are you of the needs of other people, the people that you see daily?
Here’s today’s spoonful of courage:
You know one of the things that intrigues me about the life of Jesus is how attentive, how aware, and how perceptive he was of the circumstances that other people were facing.
One example of this is found in John chapter 9 verse one. As Jesus leaves the temple, he encounters this blind man. The Bible says it very simply, “And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth”.
Isn’t it interesting that Jesus saw, in that man and in his circumstances, something that no one, not even his disciples could see. Jesus saw an opportunity to touch the man and to administer grace to the man.
You know, I think so often we pass by people every day who need a touch of grace, and for many different reasons we’re just not aware and attentive. It may be that we’re just too busy. So often we have a schedule and for many of us who are very goal oriented, sometimes we have to get to the next thing. But Jesus here doesn’t do that.
Sometimes we’re just afraid. We’re afraid of having to deal with the mess and unpack all the problems that this person has. Sometimes it’s just the fact that we’re different.
So I want to encourage you today, if you know Christ, you have the spirit of Christ living within you. The same Jesus, who had the ability to stop and to notice people and be aware of their circumstances, the same spirit of Christ lives within you. And I want to encourage you to tap into that and to realize that no, you may not be able to heal a blind man and make him see, but maybe you can be able to administer to that person and help them begin to see spiritually who Jesus is by your words and your actions.
So the next time you pass by a person, I want you to stop and be attentive and be aware of their circumstances, you never know, that may be a divine appointment.
