Here’s today’s spoonful of courage:
I want to challenge you to see others and their circumstances the way that Jesus saw them.
In John chapter 9: 1-3 we have this encounter where Jesus is leaving the temple with the disciples, and he passed by this blind man. And it’s interesting to contrast the way Jesus saw this man’s circumstances and the way the disciples saw it.
You see, the disciples were playing the blame and shame game. They were asking the question “Jesus, who’s seeing this man or his parents, for him to have this calamity of blindness come upon him?” And you know so often I think we have this same attitude when we see other people in a crisis or dilemma, and we begin to point fingers and we begin to say “hey, they deserve it”.
But Jesus has a very different perspective, a very different attitude about this blind man’s problems. You see, he sees an opportunity to extend grace in his life, he sees an opportunity to express compassion.
I want to encourage you today that we can see other people and minister to them and see them the way that Jesus saw them. You know, if we have Christ living within us and we have the helper, the spirit of Christ within us, then we have the opportunity to see people in that way. It may take changing the way that we think about others, but with God’s help, we can begin this process.
So I want to encourage you today, as you pass by other people I want to encourage you to see them the way that Jesus saw them.
